You know how you figure gramps know everything about everything. How many times have you called your grandma to ask her about some totally random fact about history or to help you understand someone’s behavior? Now if you ask your grandparents what swinging is they are going to refer back to the 1920’s when a novel way of jazz was shaped called “swing jazz.” You can get a kick out of this story. You would probably be surprised to hear that the word even dated back that far even though it wasn’t context with which you were discussing. The point of reference explains the structure of dance when a man would literally "swings" his dance collaborator through a series of dance moves. Most old fashion people couldn’t swallow it when they watched people shaking their hips to this new underground sensual music.
In due course, the late 1930's and early 1940's, band leaders like Cab Callaway, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller and Count Basie introduced the big band era and "Swing was King." In the 1950’s when Frank Sinatra and the Rat pack changed the words meaning “swingers,” it rescued the faded glory because of World War II. The word's nuance surpassed their music and began to stand for their lifestyle.
They were modish, well-groomed, and trendy and had a lot of appeal. They were swingers, man. Playboy magazine was first published and a new era of sexuality was born. "Swinger" had a positive connotation, everyone wanted to be called a "swinger." At the time the word was affiliated with men only. Just so you know, this was not appropriate for a woman... To be labeled a swinger.
Swinging is a frivolous activity for adults. It is most often seen in the way of grown men and women couples hooking up with another couple and having sexy. These relations may include swapping of wives and husbands and or orgies. The activity may occur at a swing party, a couple-to-couple encounter, a liaison, or with a 3rd person in a threesome.
“Swinging is a rendezvous in sexual activity with a person besides one’s spouse/primary partner, that have a complete understanding and agreement with that person.”
This is also known as “a way of life (the lifestyle)” or “the scene”. There are many different forms of swinging. If you go to an actual swinging clubs it can be labeled “on-premises” or “off-premises”. On-Premises, as the name may suggest, you can interact sexually with others at the event, the latter, off-premises, is when you arrange at the event to go back to the house or hotel room with other people.
Interestingly enough this lifestyle has its own list of guidelines of rules. Women that are single and single bi-sexual are usually allowed to come to the clubs and participate in the activities. For some odd reason men that are single and single men that are bi-sexual are not as easily accepted.
