Oh my goodness that is hot! My husband and I were at a swing party a couple weeks ago and a saw a woman in a gold outfit. She was wearing a thong with beautiful stilettos heels. She had a great derriere and she was showing it with no inhibition. "You go girl," I said quietly.
History in fashion has been traced back to 1939 and states that thongs were exposed to the public eye in New York’s World Fair. The Mayor at the time, Fiorello LaGuardia, authorized the city’s nude dancers to cover themselves. Fashion designer Rudi Gernreich, has been credited with introducing the first thong bikini in 1974. In the early 1980's, Frederick's of Hollywood started selling the panties in its catalogs as did then lingerie newcomer, Victoria's Secret.
Just in case you aren’t already aware of it, nothing is more popular than the “thong” when it comes to clothing. The thong is one of the sexiest items of clothing ever made. The undergarment manufacturing can't make them fast enough to keep up with the never ending increased demand. And just when you thought that it was only women and young girls that loved them so much, they happen to also be extremely possible with men. These little pieces of clothing are advertised and feature every where you turn. You will find them on billboards, on the internet, and magazines.
About 6 years ago a much admired song by singer Sisqo called the "Thong Song," hit the radio waves. This beguiling song had every person, all over the world, and every age, singing about the sexiest article of clothing of the year - "the thong, th-thong, thong, thong." Vendors said that Sisqo influenced shoppers and increased their sales in thongs.
We've come a long way from the days of teens scrambling for Beatles haircuts or Elvis' blue suede shoes. Everybody that listens to the radios top 10 is not only listening to the awesome beats, but also the words. These songs have a major influence on fashion. They now even are affecting more intimate clothing decisions. Leading lingerie stores report an increase in thong sales since the single invaded radio and MTV. The minute the Sun peeks to warm the town, everybody is pulling out their thongs and putting away jeans. Rumor has it that customers can’t turn the other cheek to Sisqos catching beats. It's been 6 years since the song was on the charts, but the effects still linger.
While the thong has been popular among exotic dancers and swingers for awhile, fashion historians say the thong -- which has been wildly popular for decades in Brazil -- was slow to catch on in the U.S. Thongs have been popular in South American countries like Brazil for years. Pull out your archived movies and look at the old James Bond from 1962 and you will see for yourself. Travelers would come to Brazil and wear thongs because they couldn't wear them in the U.S. Swingers would wear their thongs at vacation getaways like Cancun, Hedo and the French Riviera.
In 2002, The Wall Street Journal reported that "Thongs are the fastest growing segment of the $2 billion-a-year women's panty business." The sales increased astronomically in undergarments for places like, Victoria's Secret, Frederick's of Hollywood, Lane Bryant and even discount stores, such as Target and Wal-Mart.
Before you head out to make your purchase you should know that there are so many different thongs to choose from. The G-String Thong has the least coverage with no waist band. Just you and a string. The Thong has a tiny thin strip waist band, with a little bit of coverage. The 2/3 or 1/3 Back Tanga has the most coverage of all; The V-String has more coverage then the G-String and has a "V" shape in the back. The T-Back has a "t" shape in the back and The Rio is the contrary to the T-Back, in having raised up sides rather then going straight across.
If you haven't worn a thong before it may take some getting use too. But it’s worth it.
